Fairlight Blocked Drain and Broken Pipes

Chris had bought a neat townhouse in Fairlight so that he could be close to his friends and the beach. It was small but it was sufficient for his needs. He was at home only in the evenings after he returned from work. That barely gave him
three hours in the house before he went to sleep, and about an hour in the morning before he left for work.

He had two bedrooms, one with an en-suite and a second bathroom, a small kitchen and a dining lounge room. It was comfortable and meant he wasn’t stuck doing housework all weekend.

Of late he had started noticing a problem with one of the toilets. The toilet rose before it emptied and this was a worrying sign. He continued to monitor the situation but found that the toilet just wasn’t draining as well as it used to.

He had spoken to a few of the other tenants and they reported that they had no problems so he deduced that there must be some kind of blockage in his line. He couldn’t wait for the strata plumber to attend so he decided for his own comfort he would call the neighbourhood plumber that he had seen around and get the problem sorted quickly.

The plumber asked Chris if he had had the problem before but since he hadn’t lived there long he didn’t know. The
plumber was able to use a high pressure water jetter to clear the line and then he offered a camera inspection to see if
he could see any damage to the pipes.

He identified a section of the pipe that had been cracked and was letting in tree roots. Chris was concerned the plumber had talked about a dig up as he didn’t want to disturb all of the lovely paving in his courtyard.

The plumber explained there was another option that would save his paving and that was pipe re-lining. This is the
latest technological solution to rehabilitating damaged drain and sewer lines underground without the need for excavation. The easiest way to explain it is to imagine that we line the old pipe with an epoxy lining and then force it to the sides of the pipe where it forms the shape of the new pipe. The epoxy lining hardens then forms a new pipe inside the old pipe. So basically there is a new pipe formed without having to dig a trench.

This is the option that Chris decided on. It sounded much better than digging up courtyard and making a bigger mess.
